Is Health Insurance Necessary?

First, let me say that I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all solution to any problem.

With that being said, I would like to know why we, as a society, are stuck on the idea that health insurance is both necessary and the best way to pay for healthcare. The majority of people who pay for health insurance today would benefit more from taking the money that they spend in premiums each month and putting it into a health savings/flexible spending account, which was not regulated by the government or their health insurance company.

Under the ACA (ObamaCare) and the AHCA (RyanCare), premiums and deductibles make health insurance a complete waste of money for the majority of Americans. Not to mention that the rules of supply and demand would indicate that health insurance premiums, deductibles would go down and coverages would increase, if health insurance providers were forced to compete for a shrinking number of consumers who could self-insure with a health savings/flexible spending account.

For those of you who want to make sure that everyone gets free health care, I have one word for you – charity. If you want to ensure that those who cannot afford health care can receive health care, start a charitable organization to either pay for the health care of the poor or open a hospital/clinic which gives free health care to the poor. I am a strong believer in voluntary, charitable endeavors.

The real answers to the health care and health insurance dilemma are actually very simple to find. Unfortunately, legislators in both the Republican and Democrat parties have hidden agendas to reward special interests who help them get elected. The Republicans and Democrats indirectly benefit from kicking the can down the road instead of picking it up and throwing it in the trash.

We need legislators who will solve problems instead of perpetuate them. For more information on a political party which exists to solve problems instead of manufacture them, go to www.lp.org and www.lpin.org.
